Installing Downloaded Software
If you need assistance in setting up Java™ and Asaph begin with this
tutorial. This link
will bring you to the downloads page in case you clicked the
tutorials link a bit too quickly.
Kindly note: to find out if Java™ is already installed on your Windows®
computer, open the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Give it a bit of time to populate the installed programs. Now scroll
down. If you see an entry that says:
then you've got Java™ properly installed. The update
number isn't important. Java™ version 5 will work too.

Managing Databases
Asaph stores songs in databases. Before saving a single song a database
must be created. For a little assistance on how to manage databases
take a few minutes to learn the difference between Indexed and Simple
and create your own with confidence.

Setting Asaph's Preferences
To get the most out of Asaph it is best to explore the small set of
preferences available to the user. This is where the text import
plug-in can be found. More on that plug-in in Tutorial 5: "Importing a
Text File".

Adding a New Song We deal with the different tabs in the song
editor. This is a walk through for some of the basic aspects of song
creation. Tutorial 6 will deal with the finer aspects. |
Importing a Text File
This is the simplest
tutorial yet and a break from
anything considered "complex". Importing a file uses the "experimental"
plug-in and makes adding songs to Asaph a breeze. Just ensure your
chords are well placed in the original text file.

Adding a New Song (Advanced)
Some of the more complex issues in working with
Asaph are dealt with: alternate titles, keywords (handy for searching),
chord sets, alternate song versions and printing songs with no chords.

Layout
Adjust
fonts, spacings and header positions. I believe this is where the bulk
of the power exits in Asaph. Setting the chord fonts is a breeze,
creating multiple themes works too.

Odds and Ends
Some
final issues not covered under the layout tutorial: indentation,
comments and transferring files for example. This is the largest
tutorial size wise, please be patient if you have a slow connection.

The Missing Bits The
more I know about Asaph, the more I realize how little I know. More
ways to use Asaph have surfaced! This thread covers the things that
have come to light. Eventually they'll become part of the graphic
tutorials. But for now follow these easy written steps.
